Kusno practice deals with history, memory and fictional history. It is common to find drawing and installations of daily objects in his compositions to create allegorical representation and an alternative narrative to historical events.
In this work, Kusno appropriates the tradition of rampogan macan; a violent ritual in which the tiger is put to death for the king’s entertainment. Kuson’s presentation serves as a reminder that such sadistic practices of the past bear similarities with contemporary practices in the society towards the marginalized population.
