On the occasion of “Calligraphy Rhapsody – Retrospective Exhibition of Georges Mathieu” at Hong Kong’s K11 MUSEA, CoBo Social spoke to Édouard Lombard, Director of Comité Georges Mathieu, on the significance of this exhibition. In the conversation, Lombard talks about the legacy Mathieu left behind on the development of Lyrical Abstraction, his extended practice into the applied arts, and also delves into the lesser known sides of Mathieu as a theoritician and an individual.
Co-organised by K11 Art Foundation (KAF) and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau, with support from Comité Georges Mathieu, “Calligraphy Rhapsody – Retrospective Exhibition of Georges Mathieu” showcases 14 select paintings traversing four decades of the artist’s oeuvre on loan from important private collections. Curated by Catherine Kwai, Director of Kwai Fung Foundation, the exhibition is on view at K11 Art & Cultural Centre until 4 July 2021.
This is a serious in-depth introduction to a French modernist master: Well Done! Thanks not only to COBO Social but also to Catherine Kwai for bringing this pioneering French artist to Hong Kong!
