While travelling abroad remains a wild, far-fetched dream for most of us in Hong Kong, the holiday excitement is nevertheless within our grasp, with public events and festive celebrations returning in full force in the lead-up to Christmas.
The city’s harbourside landmark K11 MUSEA places craftsmanship and artistry centre-stage this holiday season with a line-up of happenings, including Asia’s first haute couture and craft exhibition, and a wide array of seasonal delicacies and surprise performances.
The cultural-retail destination is all decked out and ready for its year-end festivities. The Christmas Village Pop-up, located at the Sculpture Park, returns for a second year, introducing a contemporary carnival tradition and a modern legacy of festive storytelling, while satisfying all our holiday cravings for retail therapy.
The concept of the Christmas Village is a tribute to Luminarie—a centuries-old Christmas festival of lights that dates back to the Renaissance, where the lights symbolise beauty and enlightenment. In K11 MUSEA’s dazzling reinterpretation of the Italian tradition, a brightly-lit archway—reminiscent of a Renaissance-era architecture—welcomes visitors into the Village, where more than 20 international and local food and lifestyle brands and crafts await.
Stepping out of the Christmas Village, stellar craftsmanship and techniques can be found amongst every decorative detail in K11 MUSEA—across the entrance, Gold Ball, Oculus, and Bohemian Hexagons. The opulent display was a process that involved more than 1,500 hours of meticulous work by 20 craftsmen, all dedicated to inaugurate this remarkable display of sparkle and shine.
Elsewhere in K11 MUSEA, an exhibition dedicated to the worlds of haute couture and traditional craft will be concurrently held at K11 Art & Cultural Centre. “Savoir-Faire: The Mastery of Craft in Fashion”, masterminded by K11 founder Adrian Cheng and fashion luminary Carine Roitfeld, celebrates the lesser-known yet strong connection between haute couture and traditional Chinese craftsmanship, bringing together savoir-faire and craftsmanship from art, fashion and culture in the East and West.
Wait, there’s more. Starting from December, K11 MUSEA will be hosting a roster of surprise cultural showcases every weekend, including ballet and classical music, preluding the mega performance on Christmas Day and Boxing Day that fills our holiday outing with music and spectacle.
