Get your accessory necessity on with the latest Popcorn Art Series drop, in which Popcorn General Store has collaborated with Futura Laboratories, and digital artist Calvin Hashi (@calvinhashi) with Japanese brand #FR2.
Popcorn General Store is a multinational label streetwear purveyor of beanies, bags, caps, hoodies, pants, and t-shirts in series of limited edition brand crossovers, at its space on K11 MUSEA’s third floor.
Futura is a New York City graffiti artist—and contemporary of Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring—lately turned fashion designer, who most recently collaborated with Virgil Abloh. Popcorn is launching signature Futura pieces, including his series of limited edition Johnny figures and his Pointman icon on split panel t-shirts, along with his Tiger Stripe Camo Chino Pants, and even a Futura rug.
Meanwhile, Hashi’s artworks invoke the spirit of 90s NBA and the likes of Dennis Rodman, the late Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan. Dunking in front of Fuji Mountain, The OG of Hoya Destroya sees the OG Clown Boy from outer space (Hashi’s own creation) come to earth, hijack NBA legends, and then recalibrate as the neo-cyborg character of Patrick Ewing.
With Soul of Mamba, Hashi takes a timeout to remember the Black Mamba’s (Kobe Bryant’s) legacy with fans in this futuristic ukiyo-e composition. This is a “wow” work that’s not for sale—just for some serious contemplation.
The real showstopper is Airzone G.O.A.T Dunk “Black Cement,” in which the greatest player in the history of game, Michael Jordan, is hijacked by the OG Clown Boy and transformed into a mecha god, wearing his one and only Jordan 4 OG “black cement” colourway. The image also captures Jordan’s signature tongue-stuck-out dunking pose. This work is available in a limited edition of five. If it’s not the canvas or the prints that you want, but the merch, the #FR2 x Calvin Hashi collection also comes in a limited series of tees and caps.
Lastly, for those who feel the need for superlative statements by way of Supreme swagger, there’s a Supreme motorbike, and electric guitar and case for some seriously Suprematist delectation. Prices on request.
Founded in 2009, Popcorn functions like a unique fashion party and retailer, and stocks highly renowned and covetable branded collections of streetwear from Anti Social Social Club, Alife, Raised by Wolves, and Reshoevn8r, to Wasted Paris, and White Mountaineering.
