In Hong Kong, a society wrought with fears and neuroses (organ theft, ghosts, viral outbreak), there is a tendency to ignore certain spectra of human experience in favor of more clearly demarcated and thus more easily understood categories. By bringing together four archetypically intimidating men and a vulnerable young cat, a more ambiguous view of both is attempted. As their interaction progresses, however, there is a natural regression to the viewer’s expectations: the initial wonderment of the men gives way to melodramatic aggression; the kitten rises as a terrifying deity, but with a meow returns to earth.

Wong was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois in 1980. Originally trained in research psychology (receiving a Master’s degree from Stanford University in 2003), he began making and exhibiting work in San Francisco while concurrently conducting experiments on young children....
