“Before Rain After” talks about cycle of rain as a metaphor of irresistible power from city life towards nature.
In the first part “before rain”, it consists of two window frames with multi-channel video and daily containers respectively. The artist used containers in his home which is located in a rural place and containers around the exhibition site within the downtown to collect rain connecting the old times without tap water. The artist ironically boiled the water collected which the whole scenes created symbolic meaning as a means of self-salvation to the sky. However, while looking in details, audiences can discover that the artist still use general modern tools for boiling and collecting rain. The tools themselves are consequences of civilization to change nature.
In the second part “rain after”, a single channel video is inserted into a brick well showing reflections of puddles in home and exhibition areas. The artist originally plans to make clear difference between them, though the actual reflections are infused with artificial natural scenes and buildings over the town. You are no longer to justify rural and urban places through the hints.
